A couple of TV adverts are really annoying me at the moment. They are the Anadin "Get on with it" and Ibuleve "Get on with life" ads. Both are pain relief medications.

They are selling you the idea that whatever your symptoms of pain, you can take these to relieve the problem so you can get on with your normal routine.

Or maybe, instead, we should learn how to listen the messages our body sends us about what's wrong.

Instead of thinking: "Christ I've got a fucking bad headache and I've got to get this report done in an hour then prepare a meeting for this afternoon. I know,  I'll pop this pill and my problems will be solved!"

We should perhaps think: "Christ I've got a fucking bad headache ... perhaps it's a result of too much stress at work, eye-strain from constant VDU use and the numerous cups of coffee I drink to try and force my sleep-deprived body through the day. Maybe I need to look at changing my lifestyle to improve my state of health instead of turning to medication to help me blunder through?"

Hey, it's a thought  :)
